Flowers of Evil 11Somewhere in the midst of everything (read: job + laziness), I got particularly behind on listing my monthly manga escapades. I was mainly excited for three manga releases in September: Gangsta, Midnight Secretary, and Watamote. We’ve hit a lot of volumes 3 and 4 for newer series, but volume 7 marked the end of one of my favorite smutty manga, Midnight Secretary. Thankfully we have another Ohmi series to look forward to, Spell of Desire. I’m always excited for another volume of Watamote though, and Gangsta is some of the best seinen Viz has put out in awhile.

Another surprise from September was Dark Horse’s re-release of CLAMP’s Legal Drug. I loved it, and reviewed the series over at Organization Anti-Social Geniuses.

Still, compared to October, September seemed like a crazy month in terms of manga. I’m not sure why I had so little (comparatively speaking) in October, though one of my Rightstuf orders got split between October and November. I had a slight preorder mishap in October too — somehow I ordered the older Tokyopop edition of Deadman Wonderland volume 5 instead of the updated Viz printing! As always though, Rightstuf’s customer service was spot-on in answering my returns related questions.

My cheapest purchase did come in October though, when I stumbled across the first six volumes of Missions of Love at my local Half Price Books. I’ve been curious about the series but have heard mixed reviews; at two bucks a piece though they seemed worth the chance.

Finally, I couldn’t let October’s purchases pass without mentioning the ending of one of my all-time favorite series, Vertical’s Flowers of Evil. I’m so, so sad to see it go, but also glad that it didn’t stretch on longer than it should have. I’m really hoping to write about the series in detail one day, as it’s became an intensely personal story for me.

So, what manga did you snag to wrap up your summer?
